Start Architecture were delighted to be asked by the Heart of England Co-operative Society to redesign their New Bilton Co-operative Food Store. The refurbishment included a single storey, rear/side extension and the incorporation of an adjacent retail unit.

The new enlarged sales floor area was column free due to a new full-span roof design. Additional warehouse space, an in-house bakery and a new office were also included in the layout.

The Victorian structure posed an interesting challenge, as the building was originally three separate shops in times gone by.

The store remained operational throughout the four month construction period, following a phased programme and was delivered on time and on budget. Works were completed by Crowngate Construction in July 2019.
